Introduction

Like pages, Post Types include their own access permissions. For example, in order for a Non-administrator user to be able to add new "School News" posts, they will first need access to the "School News" Post Type. This tutorial will explain the process for giving Non-admin users (or user groups) access to specific Post Types.

NOTE: For users that are not in the "Faculty" User Group, first see "Working with Posts." If you have added a user to a Post Type, and the user receives an error message when attempting to access it, first ensure that the listed permissions are set to "Allow."

Post Type Permissions

  1. To give a user or user group access to a Post Type, begin by mousing over the "Posts" tab (located at the top of any Digital Bell page). At the bottom of the drop-down menu, click on "Manage Post Types."

  2. This will bring you to a list of the site's Post Types. Locate the Post Type you would like to update (ex. "School News"), then click the Edit button (pencil icon) to the left of the title. This will bring you to the Post Type editor.

  3. In the editor, locate the collapsed "Access" (or "Permissions") section, and click to expand it. Next, click the "Add People or Groups" field, and begin typing the name of the user or user group that should be given access. Select from the list of users/groups that pops up, then assign their access level.
