Introduction

This is a glossary of all the terms in this website that may need further explanation.

Abstract

A brief summary of your content.

Active Content

Content that is visible to the public.

Administrator

An individual with permissions that allow them to access all Digital Bell features, as well as create and manage User accounts.

Blog Post

An informational article published on a Web page. Blog posts comprise a wide range of subjects and formats, and are usually published in reverse chronological order.

Byline

An entry indicating the author of a Content Element.

CMS

A Content Management System used to organize, maintain, and update a Web site.

Comments

Content posted by your site's visitors.

Content Elements

Content Elements are select forms of media that can be added to your Web pages. Content Elements include: Text Blocks, Links, FAQs, Forms, Images, Files, Post Types, Page Types, Maps, and Developer Actions. 

Dashboard

After logging into The Digital Bell, you are presented with your Dashboard. The Dashboard allows you to navigate the Digital Bell CMS through menus and links, grouped by function. 

Embargo Date

Setting an Embargo Date will withhold your content from being published, until the date specified.

Featured Content

Content that is featured prominently on a designated page.

Form

An interactive Web page with fields that allow your site's visitors to enter and submit data.

Image

Graphical content.

Inactive Content

Content that has been created, but is not currently viewable by visitors.

Label

A feature that allows Content Elements to be grouped according to their topic.

Label Type

A Label Type is used to organize and contain your individual Labels.

Link

A link is a clickable element that leads to another Web page or section.

Locked

Locked content, such as a Web page, can only be altered by the designated owner(s).

Moderation

The ability to approve or deny comments from being published on your Web page.

Page

A Web site consists of one or more Web pages. Web pages are assigned a specific URL address and contain the Web site's content.

Page Type

Selecting a Page Type allows you to define the purpose of the page, such as Teacher, Class, or Club pages. Note, not all Digital Bell Web sites incorporate this feature.

Permissions

Permissions are granted by an administrator. A User's permissions determine which features they have access to.

Plugins

A plugin is an additional feature that can be added to The Digital Bell to expand functionality.

Post

A Post is a Content Element that consists of text and/or graphical content. Posts are grouped by their Post Type.

Post Browser

A tool for displaying and organizing links to recent content such as press releases or blog posts on a page.  It can be used to narrow a search for specific links.

Post Type

Post Types are catagories that contain individual Posts.

Press Release

A Post used to convey information to the media.

Redirect

Adding a redirect feature to a Web page allows you to forward visitors, who click the page link, to an alternate Web page of your choosing.

Site Tools

A collection of Digital Bell features for moderating comments, managing labels, and modifying specific Web site settings.

URL

The URL, or Uniform Resource Locator, is the address of an individual Web page on the Internet (ex. http://wwww.google.com).

User Group

A collection of Users who share common permissions.

Warehouse

A virtual stockroom for content you have uploaded, or created on The Digital Bell. This includes text, images, and files.

Weight

A numerical value assigning priority to content displayed in a list (lower weight values give items priority over items with greater weight values).

WYSIWYG

WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get."  WYSIWYG editors display your content as it will appear, once published on a Web page.
