How to Declutter your Post Types

When creating a new post, you may feel that you have too many options to choose from. This tutorial explains how to use the "Configuration" options, which allow you to remove unnecessary elements from your Post Types.

For example, if you have a Post Type where you do not use the "abstract" or "subtitle," these sections can be removed. This allows you to streamline your "Add Post" form, so that you will only see the fields you need.

Every user has different needs for their Post Types, and some may need less options than others. Due to this, we have included Configuration options within your Post Types.

Step 1 - Check for Configuration Options

To begin, you must first ensure that the "Configuration" feature has been enabled, as these optons may not yet be available for all Web sites.

From your Digital Bell Dashboard, mouse over the "Posts" tab to create a drop-down menu, then click on "Manage Post Types." This will bring you to a list of your existing Post Types. Locate the Post Type you wish to modify, then click the "Edit" button (pencil icon) to the left of the title. This brings you to the "Edit Post Type" form.

Scroll down the form, and verify that there is a "Configuration" section (Or confirm that the database is running 'Website Schema', 1, 1, 3, 0). If you do not see this section, email support@gslsolutions.com to request this feature, before continuing the tutorial.

Step 2 - Remove Elements from the Post Type

Once you have verified the existance of the "Configuration" section, the options can be edited. Note that the settings you choose will only apply to the Post Type you are currently editing; meaning each Post Type will need to have its own, separate "Configuration" options set. This allows you to remove the "abstract" and "subtitle" elements from one Post Type, while another may only have the "content" element removed.

In the "Configuration" section, there are checkboxes that list the various elements you will see when creating or editing your Posts. To remove an element from the Post Type, mark the checkbox next to its name. For more information on the elements that make up the "Add Post" form, see "Create a New Post."

Step 3 - Change the "Title Label"

When creating a new Post, you will notice that the first field is labeled "Title." The Configuration section includes the optional ability to change this label.

Using the "Title Label" field, "Title" can be replaced with custom text of your choosing. For example, the first field can be changed to "School Name" instead of "Title," for a Post Type about schools. Another example would be changing the label to "Headline" for a "School News" Post Type.

Use the "Title Label" field, located below the checkboxes, to enter the new label. Note that this change will only affect the Post Type that is currently being edited.

Once you have chosen which elements to remove, and, optionally, modified the "Title Label," click the "Submit" button to update your Post Type.
