1. Uploading a File
The Digital Bell allows you to upload your document files to the Warehouse. Document file types include .pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, and more. This tutorial explains how to upload your documents, and create download links for visitors. Return to Top
1a. Click "Add a File"

Place your mouse cursor over the "Warehouse" tab, located in the menu at the top of any Digital Bell page. In the drop-down menu, mouse over the "Files" link to create a second drop-down menu. In this menu, click on "Documents."

This will take you to a page listing existing document files in the Warehouse. Here, click the "Add new Document" link in the right sidebar.

1b. Select your File(s)

Clicking the link will bring you to the "Upload File" form. Here, click the button labeled "Upload Files." This will create a pop-up window with a file browser, where you can select the appropriate document file from your computer. After the upload is complete, the file will be listed on the page. You can add more files to the list by clicking the "Upload Files" button again.

1c. Finish
Once you have finished selecting document files, click the "Submit" button to complete the process and add your files to the Warehouse. The files in your Warehouse can now be added to pages with "File Groups," or linked from a Text Block with the editing toolbar. The sections below explain how you can add files to your pages. 3. Linking to a Document with the Toolbar

When editing a Text Block or FAQ, the toolbar can be used to link directly to a document. Note, a new document can be uploaded during this process, or an existing Warehouse document can be selected.

To edit a Text Block or FAQ, you will first need to edit the page where the Text Block/FAQ has been placed. Begin by clicking the "Pages" link, located at the top of your Digital Bell Dashboard, then locate the appropriate page and click the Edit button (pencil icon) to the left of the title. This will bring you to the content editor.

3a. Click the Link Button

In the content editor, locate the Text Block or FAQ , then click on it to open the text editor. In the editor, highlight the text you would like to link.

Next, click the "Link" button on the toolbar to open the "Add/Edit Link" pop-up window.

3b. Upload a New File (Option 1)

If you will be uploading a new document, click the "Upload" tab, then click the "Choose file for upload..." button to select and upload the appropriate document file. 

Once the upload is complete, click the "Insert" button to link the text to the new document file.

3b. Select an Existing File (Option 2)

If the document has already been uploaded to the Warehouse, click the "Files" tab.

On the "Files" tab, you'll see a list of the most recently uploaded documents. If your document does not appear near the top of the list, use the search bar to search for the file name or title.

Once you have located the appropriate file, click its title / file name to select it.

Finally, click the "Insert" button to link the text to the file.

4. Retrieving the Public Link / Sharing a Document

If you would like to link to a file outside of The Digital Bell, such as in an email, you will need to retrieve the document's "Public Link."

Each of the document files that are uploaded to the Warehouse are assigned a "Public Link." The "Public Link" is the URL address that points directly to the file, and can be used by anyone to view or download the file, without needing to log into The Digital Bell to access it.

4a. Navigate to your Documents

Begin by mousing over the "Warehouse" tab (located in the menu at the top of any Digital Bell page) to create a drop-down menu. Next, mouse over the "Files" tab to create a second menu. Finally, click on the "Documents" link. This will bring you to a page that lists the files that have been uploaded to your Warehouse.

4b. Edit the File

Locate the file whose "Public Link" you would like to retrieve, then click the Edit button to the left of its title. This will bring you to the "Edit Document" page for you selected file. The "Public Link" will be listed in the right sidebar of this page.

3. To copy the URL, first mouse over the "Public Link" text.

Next, right-click and select "Copy link address" (or "Copy link location" depending on your web browser) to copy the URL to your clipboard. Once the URL has been copied, it can then be pasted wherever necessary.

NOTE: In order to copy the correct URL, you must right-click and select the appropriate option from the pop-up menu. Clicking the link and copying the URL from your browser's address bar will result in a link to the file cache, which can change when the server's file cache is cleared.

5. Attaching Files to Posts

In addition to adding your files to Web pages, they can also be attached to Posts. Begin by creating a new Post, or editing an existing Post.

  • If you are creating a new Post, locate the collapsed "Related Content" section on the "Add Post" form, and click the text to expand it. Once the section is expanded, locate the "Files" section and click the "Choose from Warehouse" button. This will display a list of your existing files in a pop-up window.

Use the "quick search" box to search for the title or file name of your document, or scroll through the list to locate it. Once you have located the appropriate file, click the "Select" button to add the file to the list. Once you have selected the appropriate file(s), close the pop-up window by clicking the "X" icon in the upper right corner.

Your selected files should now be listed under the "Files" section. Complete any remaining sections of the "Add Post" form, then click either "Submit" button to create the Post. When viewing your completed Post, the attached files will be displayed as download links at the bottom.

  • If you are editing an existing Post, navigate to the list of Posts in the appropriate Post Type by mousing over the "Posts" link at the top of any page, then clicking the name of the Post Type. Next, locate the title of the Post you wish to edit and click the Edit button (pencil icon) to the left of the Posts's title.

On the "Edit Post" page, locate the collapsed "Related Content" section, and click the text to expand it. In the expanded section, locate the "File" section, then click the "Choose from Warehouse" button. This will display a list of your existing files in a pop-up window.

Use the "quick search" box to search for the title or file name of your document, or scroll through the list to locate it. Once you have located the appropriate file, click the "Select" button to add the file to the list. Once you have selected the appropriate file(s), close the pop-up window by clicking the "X" icon in the upper right corner.

Your selected files should now be listed under the "Files" section. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click either "Submit" button to update your Post with the selected document files.
